Sol and Ann Kotzin
Sol Kotzin was born on May 20, 1906, in Stary Olesiec (called simply Olesiec before WWII), a small village around 18 miles northwest of Kalisz, Poland. He passed away in Raanana, Israel, in 1994.
He married Ann (Chana) Mae Brickman and they had two children: Michael and Morissa (birth on March 28, 1938, recorded as “Marissa Simone” but listed in the 1940 census as just “Morissa”).
In 1993, he shared some memories, which Michael Kotzin recorded and, after Sol passed away, made into a memorial booklet, shown below. At the top is the record of Sol’s birth, written by Moritz in Hebrew.
The nephews mentioned by Sol in the second paragraph below were probably related to Jessie Karpas. Jessie was:
* Married to Jack Karpas
* Daughter of Mari Sacks (who was apparently the one who first moved to South Africa)
* Granddaghter of Lea Dwora Cohen (the sister of Max and Moritz).
Jessie and Jack Karpas moved from South Africa to Jerusalem, probably around 1948. They had three sons.
Lea Dwora married Icchak (Isaac) Cohen, and they had five children: Dawid Zelig, Moshe Ber, Miriam, Cypora and Tyla.
Many thanks to my cousins in Israel – Ari, Morissa and Allon – for sharing this with me!
This is Ann’s obituary:

It does not menton Bernard or Ted. They were the two oldest, so perhaps they travelled on their own a bit later. (It could be that they couldn’t afford tickets for everyone immediately: As Sol said, “Father bought our tickets and didn’t have a penny left.”)
